Celebrity Divorces: Can the media get over it already?

Why is it big news when a celebrity couple files for divorce?  It’s a statistic that, unfortunately, happens to half of all married couples, but you don’t see it having a section next to obituaries and weddings with people posting about their break-ups.  I decided to write about this topic because a few weeks ago I saw that Ashlee Simpson was trending on twitter and decided to check it out (thinking she’d released a new song or something).  All the tweets were about her filing for divorce from her husband Pete Wentz.

Why does the media feel the need to let the public know that a couple is separating?  Then again, why does the media feel it’s necessary to let us know about every single juicy detail of a famous person’s life?  Had I written this back as a teen I would be considered a hypocrite since I’d eat-up the latest gossip and I found the lives of the rich and famous to be really interesting.  I’m not as obsessed anymore and I realize that these are everyday people who happened to choose a profession that gave them no privacy.  A lot of them do what they can to hang on to what little privacy they might have and I feel they deserve respect for that. Car Maintenance Tips for Chicks

I found this post written by Lyndsie on the All Women Stalk blog and thought it would be helpful to share to those of us who know minimal to nothing about cars.  These tips are for small car repairs which you can attempt yourself but if you still have no idea what you’re doing or the problem isn’t fixed you should definitely leave it to a professional.

The Good and Bad of 2011’s Super Bowl Ads

This past Sunday millions of us tuned into Super Bowl XLV.  I didn’t really pay attention to football this season and so I couldn’t pick a favorite team during the game (Pats weren’t in so I didn’t really care).  While the rest of the family got excited watching the game I got excited during commercial breaks.

Was it just me or were there a lot of Bud and Doritos commercials?  I can’t remember all of them but I do remember that I found the Doritos commercial with the guy going around licking people’s fingers and pants very disturbing and gross.

You know I’m going to say that the Darth Vader commercial takes the win.  It was absolutely adorable and I can totally relate to that kid and how awesome he must have felt to be able to do something with his “power.”  It was a great feel-good ad.  Honestly, it’s the only commercial that really caught my attention and stuck in my mind. Remember actually enjoying snow days as a kid?

If April showers bring May flowers then what do the blizzards of December, January, and February bring?

As I type this post, I can see a few flurries out my window. A few years back, if I were sitting at a desk in school, I would probably be jumping out of my seat like every other kid.  It’s unfortunate but as a young adult now, the snow is a pain and has become an enemy.  I remember snow being such an awesome thing to me when I was younger.  It helped me get out of school and it was fun to play with…probably the 2 most important things on a kids to-do-list in life.  Now, even if I have a snow day from work there’s no fun in it.  The past 3 blizzards that have hit New England have me craving sipping a margarita on a sunny beach far far away from here.  I’ve had enough with the plowing, shoveling, salting, slipping, sliding, spinning, messiness of it all!  I haven’t even had the chance to get my car washed since there’s bad weather every other day.  Let’s keep our fingers crossed that we’re done for the rest of the winter season!

The one thing I should appreciate about these snow days now is that there’s no having to make them up and I still get to have a spring break (sorry kiddies and teachers!) although, I guess there’s no such thing as a spring break for me anymore is there?  Oh well, guess I’ll be sipping on a margarita on the couch in front of the TV…not bad. 🙂

This Dodge commercial basically sums up what we’ve been through for the past 2 months.

Our Adventure to The City of Brotherly Love

This past weekend, my boyfriend George and I took a road trip down to Philly for my office holiday party and it became quite the adventure.  I picked him up after work and he was such a good sport and volunteered to drive to and from Philly (okay, maybe I forced him to drive back, but hey! I was hungover!).

Since I was falling asleep driving to pick him up, we figured it would be a good idea to grab an energy drink for the road.  Now the only time I have ever had energy drinks were in school during midterms and finals.  They were life saving nastiness in cool looking cans.  Sure, if I didn’t choose the carb-free one my pee would turn a radioactive neon yellow (and if I did get the carb-free it would turn oddly clear), but it kept me awake (as well as bouncing-off-the-walls bonkers!).  An hour in we both were going to pee our pants.  Every time I suggested stopping at a rest-stop George would say that he could hold it until we got to NJ.  That lasted for about 10 minutes and then he told me to look for a restroom on the GPS.  More
